You have to remember that if you are shopping online you’re not just shopping in tandem with people in your own area – you’re actually sharing your shopping experience with people all over the world. As such, it can become quite competitive. There are a few easy ways to make your shopping life online easier and more successful, providing you have the time and the patience to make them work for you.

For starters, if you’re using a bidding-based purchasing style (such as that used on Ebay), learn how to make ‘snipe’ bids. This means waiting until the very last second prior to the auction ending, and making a competitive bid. By waiting until the auction close you prevent others from being able to come back with a follow-up bid and you then increase your chances of winning the item.

If you’re shopping with a big merchant, like Amazon, take advantage of their postage deals. Usually this means spending over a certain amount which then qualifies you for free postage. If you’re buying a large or heavy item which would normally cost a bit more to send, it may be worth spending a bit more on small items to bump yourself over the threshold, thus qualifying yourself for free postage and handling.

Finally, if you’re making an expensive purchase, make sure you purchase additional insurance. Usually the insurance cost is quite small, but it will give you peace of mind while you wait for the delivery of the item.
